How a New York merger created the iconic Nabisco brand
In short: Discover the corporate evolution that led to the creation of Nabisco. This video traces how several New York City bakeries consolidated their power to form a massive confectionery conglomerate.
The story begins in 1890 when eight major bakeries in New York City merged to establish the New York Biscuit Company, operating out of a six-story factory in West Chelsea. By 1898, this group merged with Chicago-based American Biscuit and Manufacturing to create the National Biscuit Company. In 1901, the company introduced the abbreviation 'Nabisco' on a box of wafers, which eventually became its official corporate name.
