Why domestic workers are the essential foundation for all other professional labor
In short: Ai-Jen Poo highlights the critical, often invisible role of domestic workers—nannies, house cleaners, and elder-care providers—who sustain our society. She advocates for fair wages and equal rights for this workforce, urging us to adopt their spirit of care and dedication in our own lives.
Domestic workers are responsible for the most precious aspects of daily life, yet they are frequently dismissed as mere 'help' or taken for granted. Ai-Jen Poo argues that this labor is the essential support system that makes all other professional work possible.
Through her activism, Poo seeks to secure fair wages and equal rights for these workers. She suggests that their commitment to showing up and caring, regardless of the circumstances, serves as a powerful model for how we might approach our own responsibilities and interactions with others.
