How modern technology is breathing new life into historic American period rooms

Using Technology and Period Documents in Reinterpreting The American Wing Period Rooms · 33:57 · Video: The Met · Watch at the source

In short: Discover how The Metropolitan Museum of Art uses recent research and advanced technology to reconfigure and renovate its seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century period rooms.

The renovation of twelve of the earliest period rooms in The American Wing involved a careful reconfiguration of architectural elements, many of which were salvaged from buildings slated for condemnation. These installations combine these rescued structures with furniture and decorative arts from the Museum's own collection.

Curators are now using scientific advances, new technology, and historic restoration techniques to revise these installations. Visitors can now use new touchscreen technology at the Museum to explore deeper contextual information regarding the history of the rooms and their furniture.
