YouTube began as a dating site, not the video giant we know today.
In short: YouTube is now a global entertainment revolution with two billion monthly users, but its origins were surprisingly niche. This video explores the platform's humble beginnings as a dating service and investigates the true story behind the very first video uploaded to the site.
While YouTube is now a dominant force in digital media, it is only 18 years old. The platform was not originally designed for general video sharing; it was intended to function as a dating and hookup website. The transition from a site meant for finding romantic partners to a massive hub for edutainment and global content remains a significant pivot in internet history.
The video also addresses the common misconceptions surrounding the first-ever YouTube upload. Despite widespread claims about what that first video was, the reality is more nuanced than popular belief suggests.
