From child star to industry veteran, Raven-Symoné has navigated decades of evolving fame.
In short: Beginning her career as a toddler in commercials, Raven-Symoné transitioned from a beloved child actor on The Cosby Show to a Disney powerhouse. Her journey spans hit television series, platinum-selling soundtracks, and a pivot toward executive production, proving her longevity in an industry that often discards its youngest stars.
Raven-Symoné Christina Pearman-Maday’s career began in infancy with print advertisements for brands like Jell-O and Fisher-Price. By age three, she was cast as Olivia Kendall on The Cosby Show, a role she held until 1992. Her early success continued with Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, but it was her 2003 casting as Raven Baxter in That's So Raven that solidified her status as a Disney icon. The series became the channel's longest-running and highest-rated show at the time, generating over $400 million in merchandise revenue.
Beyond acting, Raven-Symoné pursued a significant music career, signing with MCA Records at age seven. While her debut album, Here's to New Dreams, saw only moderate success, her contributions to Disney soundtracks—particularly The Cheetah Girls—achieved massive commercial reach. The soundtrack for the first film was certified Double Platinum, selling 2 million copies. Despite her musical output, she eventually shifted her focus, even briefly stepping away from the spotlight in 2013 to pursue formal studies in fine arts, earning her degree in 2016.
Her professional evolution has been marked by a transition into production and hosting. After co-hosting The View from 2015 to 2016, she returned to her roots to executive produce and star in Raven's Home, which ran for six seasons until 2023. Her recent work includes hosting the 2024 revival of the game show Scrabble and launching a podcast with her wife, Miranda Maday. Throughout her career, she has secured five NAACP Image Awards and multiple Emmy nominations, maintaining a consistent presence in entertainment for over three decades.
