How a computer simulation addressed the 9/11 jet fuel conspiracy
In short: For years, skeptics argued that jet fuel fires lacked the heat necessary to collapse the World Trade Center. However, modern scientific simulations have provided a different perspective, testing the structural integrity of the towers against the intense impact and subsequent infernos.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, the skyline of New York City was irrevocably altered. The World Trade Center, a complex of seven buildings, featured the iconic Twin Towers. Each 110-story skyscraper stood approximately 1,360 feet tall, making them the tallest buildings in the city at that time. The complex itself consisted of seven separate structures. This massive architectural feat dominated the downtown skyline.
The attacks unfolded in a rapid, devastating sequence. At 8:46 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower, causing damage between the 93rd and 99th floors. Seventeen minutes later, at 9:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175 hit the South Tower, impacting the 77th through 85th floors. While many initially mistook these for accidents, the deliberate nature of the hijackings soon became clear. The second impact was captured by various TV station and cell phone cameras, with the footage being broadcast repeatedly to a stunned global audience.
The violence extended beyond New York. About thirty minutes after the second tower was hit, American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. Meanwhile, United Airlines Flight 93, after a passenger revolt led by individuals like Todd Beamer, crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The scale of the tragedy prompted the U.S. government to ground all domestic flights. The hijackers had specifically seized control of the cockpits to use the aircraft as weapons. This fourth plane was being steered toward a government building in the capital.
In the aftermath, the site became known as ground zero. First responders, including firefighters and paramedics, faced an impossible task. With elevators non-functional and stairwells blocked by fire and debris, rescuers were forced to climb through the wreckage of the towers to reach those trapped inside. Police officers were among the many brave individuals who arrived at the scene within minutes. They navigated through intense smoke and heat to assist the trapped occupants.
