How a prehistoric amphibian conquered the concrete jungle of Spain
In short: Discover how the fire salamander has thrived in the city of Oviedo since the 8th century. This documentary explores how these creatures adapted to a landscape devoid of the permanent water sources typically required for amphibian survival.
The fire salamander serves as a biological anomaly, persisting in an urban environment where traditional habitats have been replaced by infrastructure. The film traces the history of these populations through centuries of human development, examining how they survived the transition from wilderness to city.
Beyond biology, the documentary investigates the cultural weight of the species, exploring the myths and legends that have surrounded these creatures since ancient times. It offers a look at the intersection of urban ecology and folklore.
