Retracing the steps of the unsung hero of natural science
In short: Comedian Bill Bailey journeys through the Bornean jungle to follow the path of Alfred Russel Wallace, searching for the elusive orangutan while exploring the legacy of a brilliant explorer.
The video follows Bill Bailey as he explores the life and travels of 19th-century English naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace. Wallace, an eccentric explorer who survived encounters with pirates, sinking ships, and man-eating tigers, was fascinated by the potential evolutionary link between humans and monkeys.
While Wallace's work fundamentally changed our understanding of life on Earth, he has often been omitted from historical narratives. Bailey uses this expedition to share his passion for Wallace's discoveries and the wildlife of Indonesia.
