Could machines evolve into a new type of companion species?
In short: Conceptual artist Anicka Yi explores the boundary between technology and biology through her floating machines. This video examines how soft robotics and natural inspiration can create autonomous, lighter-than-air entities that react to their environment.
Anicka Yi creates 'aerobes'—lighter-than-air machines that mimic the behavior of autonomous life forms. By drawing inspiration from the natural world and soft robotics, these machines roam and react to their surroundings.
Yi's work challenges our traditional view of technology as mere tools, prompting us to consider whether machines might eventually evolve into a new kind of companion species.
