Could our machines evolve into a new type of companion species?
In short: Conceptual artist Anicka Yi explores the boundary between robotics and biology. This video showcases her lighter-than-air "aerobes," machines designed to roam and react like autonomous life forms rather than mere tools.
Drawing inspiration from soft robotics and the natural world, Yi creates floating machines that challenge our traditional relationship with technology. Rather than viewing machines as static objects we use, her work invites us to consider them as evolving entities.
The project explores the possibility of machines becoming a "companion species." By mimicking the behaviors of living creatures, these aerobes prompt a deeper reflection on how humans might coexist with autonomous life forms in the future.
