The hidden underground networks that sustain nearly all life on Earth
In short: While we focus on plants and animals, a massive kingdom of fungi operates beneath our feet. This video explores how these invisible organisms form the essential life-support systems for our planet's biodiversity.
Biologist Merlin Sheldrake discusses the critical role of mycorrhizal networks—symbiotic connections between plants and fungi. These ancient systems are vital for global nutrient cycles, yet they are frequently overlooked in modern conservation and climate change strategies.
SPUN's objectives involve safeguarding and charting these underground groups, a project showcased during the talk. It also examines cutting-edge research on how carbon and nutrients flow through these underground fungal pathways.
