In short: Peggy didn't start her career on a red carpet. She began as the runt of an accidental litter, gaining fame for her unique appearance before undergoing rigorous professional training to land a role in one of the biggest blockbusters of the decade.

A Pugese, which combines a Chinese Crested Dog with a Pug, Peggy arrived in the world during the start of 2018. She was adopted by Holly Middleton in late 2018 at just six months old. Her path to stardom was unconventional; she first gained public attention in 2023 after winning a competition for 'Britain's ugliest dog' hosted by the photography firm ParrotPrint. This 'rags to riches' narrative provided the initial momentum for her transition from a social media curiosity to a professional animal actor.

Her breakthrough came when actor Ryan Reynolds championed her inclusion in the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine. Reynolds noted that Peggy embodied the 'animal manifestation' of his character, Wade Wilson. Despite having no prior experience, Peggy underwent extensive preparation under trainer Jules Tottman. The training was notably rigorous; it took approximately eight weeks for Peggy to learn to jump into Reynolds' arms on command, a task she mastered with the help of cheese rewards. Reynolds even joked that she underwent more training than his co-star, Hugh Jackman.

Peggy's success has extended into various commercial and advocacy spheres. She won multiple Fidos Awards, including the 2025 Comedy Canine and BFI Best in World Awards, and served as the spokesperson for a 2025 wine brand called 'Ugly Estates.' Beyond the glamour of red carpets and comic conventions, she has also been used as a high-profile figure for advocacy, such as a 2026 petition regarding UK flight regulations for dogs traveling in-cabin.
