Hidden shark nurseries and nocturnal reef marauders revealed by modern tech

Phantoms of Evolution - The Unknown Underwater Predators | Free Documentary Nature · 51:45 · Video: Free Documentary - Nature · Watch at the source

In short: Explore the secret behaviors of lemon and white-tip reef sharks. This documentary uses high-end cinematography to capture rare footage of pregnant shark populations and nocturnal hunting tactics in the Bahamas and Costa Rica.

In the Grand Bahama Bank, researchers have identified a massive population of 70 to 80 pregnant lemon sharks that arrive annually in the spring. This discovery, made only a few years ago by Professor Sam Gruber, reveals a unique resting behavior where many females rest on the seabed while pregnant tiger sharks swim nearby.

The film also travels to Costa Rica's Cocos Island to observe white-tip reef sharks. These predators patrol the reefs in large groups late at night, hunting diverse prey. The footage highlights the contrast between these nocturnal hunters and the surrounding marine life, including schools of fish, stingrays, and hammerhead sharks.
