A rare opportunity to study the secretive nesting habits of King Cobras
In short: When a king cobra nest is discovered in a village, it often faces destruction. This video follows snake master Nick Nirut as he responds to a sighting in Chiang Mai to protect the nest and study its construction.
Herpetologists view the finding of a king cobra nest within a Chiang Mai hamlet as a major milestone. Because these nests are often destroyed by humans out of fear, finding one intact provides a rare window into the serpent's behavior.
The footage explores the specific choices a mother snake makes regarding nest location and the physical construction of the nest itself. By relocating the nest rather than destroying it, experts can gather critical data on the species' reproductive habits.
