How conservation efforts brought the UK's elusive otters back from the brink
In short: After nearly vanishing from the United Kingdom in the 1970s, otters are making a comeback. This video follows conservationist Hannah Stitfall as she meets the dedicated individuals working on the front lines to protect these semi-aquatic mammals.
The footage explores the critical importance of animal welfare and conservation in a modern world where many species require human intervention to survive. By visiting specialists working to give endangered species a fighting chance, the program highlights the ongoing struggle to restore biodiversity.
The otter's recovery serves as a vital example of how targeted conservation efforts can reverse the decline of a species that had almost entirely disappeared from the UK landscape decades ago.
