How a busy summer day tests the limits of sea turtle rescue centers.
In short: The South Carolina Aquarium Sea Turtle Care Center faces a surge of patients. This video follows the staff as they treat a green sea turtle with a shell infection and a juvenile loggerhead suffering from a stingray injury.
The facility manages a hectic schedule during the summer months, balancing the diverse medical needs of its marine patients. The team must address specific, complex injuries, such as the shell hole and infection found on the green sea turtle, Conch, and the trauma caused by a stingray encounter in a young loggerhead.
These cases highlight the ongoing challenges of wildlife rehabilitation, where staff must provide specialized care for multiple animals simultaneously. The center's work is essential for the recovery of these endangered species, illustrating the intense effort required to treat injuries that threaten their survival in the wild.
