When a chimpanzee adopts a high-tech robot as its own
In short: Watch how a family of chimpanzees reacts to a robotic intruder. This footage captures a surprising moment of interspecies bonding where a camera-equipped tortoise becomes a member of the troop.
In this segment from the series 'Spy in the Wild,' researchers use a robot tortoise to observe chimpanzee behavior. The footage captures a unique interaction where one specific chimpanzee takes a liking to the device, eventually adopting it into the group's social structure.
The broader series aims to redefine our understanding of 'animal' nature by highlighting behaviors in the wild that mirror human lifestyles. By documenting these startling parallels, the production explores the shared traits between our species and the animal kingdom.
