How a mother stoat survives the relentless demands of motherhood
In short: In Yorkshire, a specialized garden equipped with over 50 cameras captures the intense life of a mother stoat. This footage follows her struggle to provide for her kits, who require daily meals totaling more than half their own body weight.
The film explores the complex lives of the weasel family, often unfairly cast as villains in nature. Through the lens of a mother stoat raising her first litter, we see the sheer physical demand required to sustain her offspring.
Beyond the stoat, the documentary examines the extraordinary evolutionary traits of related species, such as the honey badger's problem-solving skills, the ferret's flexibility, and the wolverine's acute sense of smell. These specialized adaptations have allowed these small predators to conquer the planet.
