Beyond the strike: the surprising maternal instincts of the world's deadliest vipers
In short: Vipers are often viewed as cold-blooded killers, but this documentary reveals a hidden, softer side to their nature. By following three specific mothers across extreme environments, the film explores the intense dedication required to raise offspring and maintain their status as queens of their respective domains.
The documentary tracks the lives of three distinct vipers: Velvet, a Gaboon viper; Therma, a rattlesnake; and Aries, a puff adder. Despite the lethal reputation of their species, these mothers navigate diverse and challenging landscapes with a singular focus on protecting and growing their families.
The narrative highlights the contrast between the viper's iconic predatory nature and the complex maternal behaviors necessary for survival. By observing these three individuals, the film provides a rare look at the domestic struggles and strategic efforts involved in ensuring the next generation of vipers thrives in the wild.
