The decade-long odyssey of a wolf who shaped an ecosystem
In short: Follow the life of White Wolf, a female alpha whose ten-year journey provides a rare, continuous look at wild life from puppyhood to death. This documentary captures her role in restoring balance to Yellowstone's Hayden Valley.
The footage documents a unique period in wildlife biology: a complete life cycle of a single wolf over ten years. White Wolf’s pack was the first to den in Hayden Valley following the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone Park in 1995.
The narrative highlights the ecological necessity of these predators. Before their return, elk herds had expanded so significantly that they negatively impacted the park's plant ecology. While the valley provides rich prey for eight months, the pack must navigate severe winters where ungulates migrate to lower elevations, forcing the wolves to adapt to find food in harsh conditions.
