The complex social dynamics of a wolf pack's territorial expansion
In short: Witness the generational transition of the Hayden Valley wolves. This documentary follows a white female wolf as she establishes her own territory, navigates breeding hierarchies, and builds a pack capable of challenging long-standing rivals.
The narrative centers on the daughter of White Wolf, who eventually forms the Canyon Pack in Hayden Valley. The video explores the social mechanics of pack formation, including how males must determine breeding rights to establish an alpha role. Over six years, this group established a territory that included park roads and proximity to human settlements near Mammoth.
A pivotal shift occurred in 2014 when White Wolf abdicated her territory to her daughter. The documentary tracks the subsequent expansion of the pack as it integrated new males from the Mollies Pack. These strategic additions were essential for the Canyon Pack to grow large enough to eventually confront their historical rivals.
