In short: After a high-stakes vote in Bangkok, the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup is heading to Brazil. This landmark tournament marks a historic milestone for the continent and brings a unique set of challenges and celebrations to the footballing world.

On May 17, 2024, during the 74th FIFA Congress held in Bangkok, Brazil secured the hosting rights with 119 votes, defeating the Belgium–Germany–Netherlands joint bid, which earned 78. This victory makes Brazil the first nation to host the Women's World Cup in South America or Latin America. It also marks the sixth country to host both the men's and women's versions of the tournament, following in the footsteps of nations like the United States, Germany, and Canada.

The 2027 edition will feature 32 teams, representing the final time the tournament will use this format before expanding to 48 teams in 2031. The competition will consist of 64 matches played across eight stadiums, most of which previously hosted matches during the 2014 men's tournament. While cities like Natal have sought inclusion, the selection process has seen shifts, such as the potential inclusion of Belém, which was initially excluded due to ongoing renovations at the Estádio Mangueirão.

The road to the tournament has been marked by significant political and structural shifts. In July 2026, UEFA threatened an indefinite boycott of all FIFA competitions in response to the 'FIFA Forward Enterprise' proposal, which aimed to sell stakes in tournament operations to private investors. However, after the proposal was scrapped on July 31, 2026, the boycott was provisionally suspended. As the tournament approaches, the official emblem—inspired by the Brazilian flag and the letters 'W' and 'M'—will represent a global celebration of the game.
