In short: Deep in the swamps of South Louisiana, a band forged a sound as heavy as the region's history. Acid Bath blended doom metal with hardcore punk and gothic rock, creating a 'death rock' atmosphere that felt like it seeped out of the very soil of thebayou.

Acid Bath emerged from the small towns of Southern Louisiana, including Houma and Thibodaux, in 1991. The band's aesthetic was deeply tied to the geography; vocalist Dax Riggs noted that the area's history as a penal colony for murderers and the mentally ill created a 'very dark vibe' that influenced their music. This regional atmosphere merged with a diverse sonic palette, incorporating elements of blues, grunge, and industrial music.

Technically, the band was known for its experimental structures, often utilizing multiple tempo changes within a single song. Their work ranged from acoustic blues and folk-influenced pieces to tracks featuring industrial effects on snare drums and processed vocals. They were also known for sampling controversial films like Blue Velvet and A Clockwork Orange.

However, their provocative imagery—including art by John Wayne Gacy and Dr. Jack Kevorkian—led to the initial banning of their 1996 album, Paegan Terrorism Tactics, in Australia. Despite only releasing two studio albums during their initial run (1991–1997), the band achieved significant underground acclaim and influenced major acts like Slipknot. Their career was tragically cut short in January 1997 following the death of bassist Audie Pitre in a traffic collision. After decades of rumors and a 2014 clarification that they would not replace Pitre, the band announced a major reunion in October 2024, scheduling a series of shows across the United States and Europe for 2025 and 2026.
