In short: Ajith Kumar is a celebrated figure in Tamil cinema who has starred in over 63 films. Yet, his ambitions extend far beyond acting. He is a dedicated racing driver who has competed in international Formula championships, balancing a prolific career in entertainment with the rigorous demands of professional motorsport.

Born in 1971, Ajith Kumar transitioned from a brief stint as a mechanic and garment industry worker to become a prominent actor. His breakthrough arrived with the 1995 film Aasai, and he later solidified his status as a versatile performer through dual roles in hits like Vaalee and Villain. Over his career, he has earned numerous accolades, including three Filmfare Awards for Best Actor in Tamil cinema and the Padma Bhushan in 2025, the third-highest civilian honour in India.

Kumar’s relationship with motor racing is equally significant. He has competed in circuits across India and abroad, including races in Malaysia and Germany. His racing resume includes participation in the 2003 Formula Asia BMW Championships and the 2010 FIA Formula Two Championship. In 2025, his commitment to the sport was recognized when he received a prestigious accolade for his conduct and skill as a gentleman driver at a ceremony in Venice, presented by the SRO Motorsports Group.

The actor’s approach to his dual life is marked by intense physical discipline. To prepare for various racing seasons and film roles, he has undergone significant weight loss, including shedding 11 kilograms for his 2010 racing season and 25 kilograms for his return to the 24H Series. Beyond the track and the studio, Kumar has also engaged in philanthropic efforts through the Mohini-Mani Foundation, which focuses on civic consciousness and urban hygiene, and has recently ventured into motorcycle touring services.
