How the initial Kazakhstani male entered the ATP top 10
In short: From a professional debut in 2016 to a historic world ranking of No. 10, Alexander Bublik has rewritten the record books for Kazakhstan. His journey through the ATP circuit is marked by massive upsets, major doubles finals, and a breakthrough performance on the clay of Roland Garros.
Born in Gatchina, Russia, in 1997, Alexander Bublik began his tennis journey at age four under the coaching of his father, Stanislav. Though he began his professional career representing Russia, he announced his decision to compete for Kazakhstan in November 2016. He broke new ground for his country by hitting the ATP top 10 on 12 January 2026, a first for any Kazakhstani man. Before his rise to the top 10, he reached a career-high doubles ranking of No. 47 in late 2021. His early development was shaped by his time on the ITF junior circuit, where he secured eleven titles and achieved a world ranking of No. 19.
Bublik's career is defined by significant breakthroughs at the highest levels of the sport. In singles, he reached the quarterfinals of the 2025 French Open, the best Grand Slam result for a Kazakhstani man. He has also demonstrated versatility in doubles, reaching the final of the 2021 French Open alongside compatriot Andrey Golubev. By playing together, they became the inaugural Kazakhstani men to compete in a major final. His doubles success also extended to the 2020 Australian Open, where he and Mikhail Kukushkin reached the semifinals. This period of excellence helped establish his presence as a formidable competitor in both disciplines.
His path to the top was not linear. After starting the 2016 season ranked No. 964, he quickly climbed to No. 205 by year's end. His trophy cabinet includes nine ATP Tour singles titles, with his first major victory coming at the 2022 Open Sud de France in Montpellier, where he defeated the top seed, Alexander Zverev. Despite periods of fluctuation, such as a drop into the 200s in 2018, Bublik has consistently challenged the world's elite. His singles victories have spanned various surfaces and locations, including a title in Doha, Qatar, during his first professional season. He also proved his resilience by winning a Challenger title in Bratislava after a difficult 2018 campaign.
