In short: To achieve its status as an ultra-long-range powerhouse, the Bombardier Global 7500 underwent a radical engineering evolution. By redesigning its wing and prioritizing fuel capacity over interior volume, it successfully bridged continents while maintaining a luxury four-zone cabin that can sleep up to eight passengers.

The development of the Global 7500 was marked by significant engineering hurdles. Originally announced in October 2010 as the Global 7000, the program faced a delay of over two years starting in 2015 due to a comprehensive wing redesign. The goal was to reduce weight without compromising aerodynamics. This new transonic wing features a 35.3° quarter chord sweep and double-slotted inboard Fowler flaps, which provide up to 30% better low-speed lift compared to standard designs.

The aircraft's performance is driven by General Electric Passport engines, offering 8% better fuel efficiency than its predecessors. This allows for a range of 7,700 nautical miles (14,300 km). To put this in perspective, the Global 7500 holds records for extreme endurance, including an 8,225 nmi non-stop flight between Sydney and Detroit in October 2019. It also demonstrated its versatility by taking off from London City Airport's short runway to reach Los Angeles with a fully fitted interior.

While the Global 7500 is currently the largest business jet in the world, it sits alongside its sibling, the Global 8000. In a strategic pivot in May 2022, Bombardier decided that instead of shrinking the cabin to save weight, they would extend the range of the 8000 model to 8,000 nmi. This move ensured the 7500 remains the primary choice for high-net-worth individuals seeking a balance between massive four-zone interior space and transcontinental reach.

The airframe utilizes aluminum–lithium alloys to shave off weight while increasing cabin height and width by 1 inch (25 mm). This structural optimization, combined with fly-by-wire systems based on the CSeries architecture, allows the jet to damp turbulence effectively. Despite these complexities, the program was successfully delivered in late 2018, eventually securing 100 orders immediately upon its entry into service.
