In short: In the high-stakes world of motorsport, most teams never see the pinnacle of Formula One. Yet, Adrián Campos defied the odds by building a Spanish powerhouse that transitioned from regional championships to securing a coveted seat on the global stage.

Founded in 1997 by former driver Adrián Campos, the team—originally known as Campos Motorsport—began its journey in the Open Fortuna by Nissan. The early years were defined by immediate success; in 1998, the team secured a teams title with drivers Marc Gené and Antonio García. This momentum continued into 2000, where García won the championship, helping the team claim its third consecutive titles as the series evolved into the World Series by Nissan.

The organization's trajectory shifted significantly in 2004 when it pivoted toward the Spanish Formula Three Championship before rebranding to Campos Racing in 2005. This era saw expansion into the GP2 Series and various F3 classes. A major milestone occurred in 2008 under the banner of Barwa International Campos Team, where they won the GP2 teams championship with Lucas di Grassi and secured their first overall Spanish F3 crown.

The team's most ambitious move came in 2009 when it was awarded a Formula One entry for the 2010 season. However, financial struggles forced a sale in February 2010 to José Ramón Carabante, who renamed the outfit Hispania Racing (also known as HRT). Despite this detour, the brand returned to GP2 and various F3 categories in later years. Following Adrián Campos's death on January 28, 2021, his son took over as team principal, continuing a legacy that has hosted icons like Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris.

The team's history is marked by complex branding and licensing, including names like Pertamina Campos Racing in 2016 and Team Oscaro by Campos Racing in 2018. This evolution reflects the volatile nature of motorsport ownership and the constant pursuit of technical and commercial viability.
