In short: Founded in 1928 as Club Tunisien, the team now known as CS Sfaxien has evolved into a dominant force in African football. Based in Sfax, the club is defined by its iconic black and white stripes and a unique, member-driven support network that fuels its international ambitions and infrastructure development.

Club Sportif Sfaxien, or CSS, began its journey nearly a century ago. Originally established in 1928 under the name Club Tunisien, the team initially played in green and red. It was not until 1962 that the club adopted its current identity, rebranding as Club Sportif Sfaxien and switching to the distinctive black and white stripes that supporters recognize today. The club has maintained a consistent presence in the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1, marking its half-centenary in 1978 with a significant Tunisian League title victory.

The club's reputation grew substantially through its success in continental competitions. In November 1998, CSS secured its first CAF Cup title by defeating Senegal's ASC Jeanne d'Arc. This success paved the way for a golden era in the CAF Confederation Cup. CSS claimed the trophy in 2007 against Al Merreikh and successfully defended it in 2008 against local rivals Etoile du Sahel. By 2013, the club added a third Confederation Cup title to its cabinet after a tense final against TP Mazembe, cementing its status as a formidable competitor in African football.

Beyond the pitch, CSS is supported by the SOCIOS-CSS network, an internal body established in 2008 to manage projects and infrastructure. This network became a permanent fixture of the club following a 2011 assembly. It operates with international reach through the French-based SOCIOS CSS INTERNATIONAL association. This structure allows the club to engage in global partnerships, such as a 2015 agreement with Sandlanders Football aimed at sustainable development. Domestically, the club continues to thrive, recently securing its seventh Tunisian FA Cup title in September 2022.
