From child clone to Star Wars: the rapid ascent of Dafne Keen
In short: At just ten years old, she was making her television debut. By her teens, she was commanding the screen in some of the most significant blockbuster franchises in modern cinema, blending ferocity with a vulnerability that captured the world's attention.
Born in Madrid on 4 January 2005, Dafne Keen is a Spanish and British actress whose career has been defined by high-stakes roles in major cinematic universes. She first appeared on screen in 2015 in the BBC series The Refugees, performing alongside her father, the English actor Will Keen. This early start paved the way for her breakout role in the 2017 film Logan, where she portrayed Laura, the child clone of Wolverine.
Her performance in Logan earned her significant industry recognition, including an Empire Award for Best Newcomer and nominations from the Saturn Awards and the Critics' Choice Movie Awards. Critics noted her unique ability to balance a feral, energetic presence with deep innocence. This talent led to her being cast by Leslye Headland in the Star Wars series The Acolyte, a role created specifically for her after Headland witnessed her work in Logan.
Keen's filmography also includes a prominent role as Lyra Belacqua in the BBC/HBO adaptation of His Dark Materials, which aired from 2019 to 2022. Her career reached a new commercial peak in 2024 when she reunited with Hugh Jackman in Deadpool & Wolverine. This release became a massive global success, ranking as the second-highest-grossing R-rated film in history and the second-highest-grossing movie of 2024.
Beyond the blockbusters, Keen has explored diverse genres, from the comedy-drama Ana, released in 2020, to the 2025 horror film Whistle. As she continues to expand her repertoire, including upcoming work in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, she remains influenced by a wide array of cinematic legends, from Meryl Streep to Olivia Colman.
