The athlete who redefined the limits of human mobility
In short: Born without most of his left leg and missing fingers on his left hand, Ezra Frech didn't just adapt to his physical reality—he redefined what is possible in elite athletics. From a toddler with a prosthetic to a world-record-breaking Paralympian, his journey is a masterclass in human potential.
Ezra Frech's athletic trajectory began with a profound physical reality: he was born missing a knee and fibula on his left leg, as well as fingers on his left hand. By the age of two, he underwent surgery at Boston Children's Hospital to remove his lower left leg and received a toe transplant from his amputated foot onto his left hand. He received his first prosthetic leg at just 11 months old, setting the stage for a life defined by biomechanical adaptation.
His transition into elite sports was rapid. After playing various sports as a child, Frech focused on track and field at age eight. He made his debut in 2013 at the Endeavor Games in Oklahoma, where he broke several national youth records. This early success propelled him to the international stage by 2019, where he competed at the World Para Athletics Junior Championships and the World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai, the latter being his debut as the youngest athlete in the field.
Frech's career reached a pinnacle of historic performance between 2023 and 2024. In Paris, he set a world record in the high jump T63 with a leap of 1.95 meters. By the 2024 USA Paralympic Trials, he shattered his own record, reaching 1.97 meters. At the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, he secured gold medals in both the 100 meters and the high jump, with his high jump height of 1.94 meters establishing a new Paralympic Games record.
Beyond the podium, Frech is a systemic advocate for disability rights. Since 2006, his family has supported Team Ezra, and in 2013, he founded Angel City Sports. The latter provides year-round adaptive sports training and hosts the Angel City Games, one of the largest adaptive sporting events in the United States, ensuring that the infrastructure for accessibility matches his own personal achievements.
