The ancient philosophical lineage of Hermes Trismegistus
In short: Explore the origins of Hermeticism, a philosophy rooted in the legendary synthesis of Greek and Egyptian deities. This video introduces the foundational texts that have shaped Western esoteric thought for centuries.
The doctrine of Hermeticism stems from the alleged instructions of Hermes Trismegistus, an entity embodying a Hellenistic blend of Thoth from Egypt and Hermes from Greece. Spanning roughly 300 BCE to 1200 CE, these ideas are maintained within diverse writings called the Hermetica.
The video highlights the 'philosophical' Hermetica, specifically focusing on the Corpus Hermeticum. This significant collection consists of seventeen Greek treatises recorded between roughly 100 and 300 CE.
