How a fusion of Greek and Egyptian wisdom shaped Western esotericism
In short: Explore the lineage of Hermeticism, a spiritual tradition born from ancient cultural syncretism. This video traces its path from legendary origins to its profound influence on Renaissance humanism and modern spiritual movements.
Hermeticism emerged from the blending of Greek and Egyptian cultures, centered on the legendary figure Hermes Trismegistus. This figure is associated with the wisdom deities Hermes and Thoth. The core of the tradition is found in the "Corpus Hermeticum," a collection of texts that explore the relationship between the cosmic and the personal.
The tradition saw a major turning point during the Renaissance with the rediscovery of these texts. This sparked a movement that intertwined with alchemy, astrology, and Kabbalah. Today, the history of Hermeticism remains a subject of academic debate regarding the historical validity of its figures and texts, even as it continues to influence modern esoteric practices.
