From World Cup Champion to Leading Voice in Global Sports Broadcasting
In short: Isa Guha redefined the path for female cricketers, becoming the first woman of Indian heritage to represent England. After a decorated career as a world-class bowler, she transitioned into a prominent broadcasting role, covering everything from the Cricket World Cup to the Wimbledon Championships and the Paris Olympic Games.
Born in High Wycombe in 1985 to parents who emigrated from Calcutta, Isa Guha began her cricketing journey at age eight. Her talent was evident early, as she was selected for the Development England side by age 13. By 17, she made her Test debut against India, marking the start of a decade-long international career that saw her compete in the 2005 and 2009 World Cups. A right-arm fast-medium bowler, Guha reached the pinnacle of her sport in 2008 when she became the top-ranked bowler in the ICC Women's One-Day International rankings.
Guha’s playing career was defined by high-pressure performances and technical excellence. In February 2008, she delivered her career-best Test figures of 5 for 40 against Australia at the Bradman Oval, securing nine wickets in the match and earning Player of the Match honors as England retained The Ashes. Her versatility was further demonstrated by her batting, where she held a world record partnership for the ninth wicket in One Day Internationals for 17 years. She retired from international cricket in 2012, citing the 2009 World Cup victory as her professional highlight.
Following her retirement, Guha successfully pivoted to a career in media, becoming a familiar voice on Test Match Special and a lead presenter for major sporting events. Her broadcasting portfolio is extensive, spanning the Indian Premier League, the 2019 Cricket World Cup, and the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Beyond her media work, she remains active in advocacy, launching the Got Your Back initiative in 2023 to support female cricketers. In 2025, she was appointed an MBE for her services to inclusivity and the sport of cricket, cementing her legacy both on and off the pitch.
