The Belgian playmaker who conquered Europe and the WNBA
In short: From the Belgian league to the heights of the WNBA, Julie Allemand has navigated injuries, mental health struggles, and international glory. Discover the journey of a versatile guard whose career is defined by elite playmaking and championship dominance across the continent.
Born in 1996, Julie Allamand’s professional trajectory is a testament to resilience and adaptability. Her early career saw her competing in the Belgian league from 2014 to 2017 before moving to France to play for ASVEL. During her time in France, she secured the Ligue Féminine title in 2019 and later achieved further domestic success with BLMA, winning the French Cup during the 2020–21 season.
Allemand’s impact on the WNBA was immediate. After being selected in the third round of the 2016 draft by the Indiana Fever, she joined the roster for the 2020 season. Her rookie year was particularly notable for her distribution skills, as she averaged 5.8 assists per game—the second-most in the league—earning her a spot on the 2020 AP All-Rookie team. However, her path has not been without obstacles; she sat out the 2021 season to address burnout and mental health challenges following the Olympics, and missed the 2024 season due to a right ankle injury.
On the international and European stages, Allemand has been a cornerstone of Belgian basketball. She was a key part of the national team that won EuroBasket Women in both 202 23 and 2025. Her club success reached a pinnacle in 2026, when she led Fenerbahçe to a EuroLeague Women championship, earning the Final Six MVP award after a standout performance in the final against Galatasaray Çağdaş Faktoring. By 2026, she also stood as the all-time assists leader in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup with 111 assists.
