In short: In 2006, Napoli signed 15-year-old Lorenzo Insigne for just €1,500. Decades later, the Italian playmaker would become a European champion and a multi-million dollar star in North America, known for his technical precision and lethal free kicks.

Lorenzo Insigne's career is a testament to technical evolution. Following a €1,500 transfer from Olimpia Sant'Arpino to Napoli in 2006, he underwent several loan periods at clubs including Pescara, Foggia, and Cavese to develop his skills. His time at Pescara in the 2011–12 Serie B season was particularly transformative; he recorded 18 goals and 14 assists, earning him the title of Serie B's 'Best Player' alongside teammates Ciro Immobile and Marco Verratti.

Upon returning to Napoli, Insigne became a central figure in their success, winning Coppa Italia titles in 2013–14 and 2019–20. His individual brilliance was recognized globally when he was named Serie A's best-performing player for the 2020–21 season. His ability to perform under pressure was evident during Italy's successful UEFA Euro 2020 campaign, where he scored in the final against England and was named star of the match during a quarter-final victory over Belgium.

In 2022, Insigne transitioned to Major League Soccer with Toronto FC, signing a four-year contract as a designated player with a reported annual salary of $15 million—the highest in the league at that time. Despite his prolific start in North America, including a game-winning goal against Nashville SC, he reached a mutual contract termination with the club in July 2025. His journey has since seen him return to the Italian second tier with Pescara and later Sampdoria.
