In short: At 16, Moses Itauma reportedly entered a boxing gym in his school uniform and sparred a world champion. Today, the British heavyweight has transitioned from an undefeated amateur standout to a professional force, challenging for the IBF heavyweight title after a meteoric rise through the ranks.

Born in Kežmarok, Slovakia, to a Nigerian father and Slovak mother, Itauma’s early years were marked by racial abuse, prompting his family to migrate to Chatham, Kent, when he was three. His path to the ring was unconventional; though introduced to boxing at age nine by his brother Karol, he briefly abandoned the sport for football before returning to St Mary's ABC in Kent.

Itauma’s professional ascent was characterized by rapid, clinical finishes. He made his debut at Wembley Arena on 28 January 2023, securing a knockout victory in just 23 seconds. By 2024, he had been named The Ring magazine's Prospect of the Year, following significant victories such as his second-round stoppage of Ilja Mezencev in Saudi Arabia and a win over Mariusz Wach at London's O2 Arena.

His dominance was most evident in his 2025 clash with veteran Dillian Whyte. Despite Whyte’s experience, Itauma secured a first-round knockout in under two minutes, landing 55.9% of his punches. However, the momentum of his undefeated streak met a significant hurdle in August 202 $ ext{6}$ during his IBF heavyweight title challenge against Filip Hrgović. Despite winning several rounds on the scorecards, Itauma suffered his first professional defeat via a ninth-round TKO, leaving the ring on a stretcher.

While he once harbored ambitions to break Mike Tyson's record as the youngest heavyweight champion, Itauma has since refocused his career on the elite level of the heavyweight division.
