In short: Born Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., the artist known as OG Maco emerged from the Georgia music scene to capture national attention with his 2014 hit single. His career, marked by rapid success and creative collaborations, faced a series of profound personal challenges that ultimately cut his life short at thirty-two.

Born in College Park, Georgia, on April 23, 1992, Ihesiba began his musical journey as a guitarist and vocalist in a band called Dr. Doctor. He drew artistic inspiration from a diverse range of acts including Kid Cudi, Currensy, and Black Sabbath. His breakthrough arrived in 2014 with the debut single U Guessed It, a track that gained significant traction and featured a remix with 2 Chainz, eventually securing a position on the Billboard Hot 100. This momentum led him to sign with Quality Control Music, a label that later became an imprint of Capitol and Motown Records.

Beyond his solo work, Ihesiba was a central figure in the hip hop collective OGG, where he played a role in discovering the producer OG Parker. His output was prolific, spanning seventeen extended plays released between 2012 and 2016, followed by his full-length studio debut, The God of Rage, in 2021. He also received industry recognition when he was selected for the 2015 XXL Freshman Class, a platform highlighting emerging talent in the genre.

The latter half of his life was defined by severe health struggles. In July 2016, a major vehicle accident left him with severe physical trauma, including damage to his skull, spine, and eye socket, as well as heart issues. In 2019, he faced a diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis, a condition that caused significant facial disfigurement following a minor skin infection. These events contributed to a long battle with depression. In December 2024, after sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound, he remained in a coma for two weeks before passing away on December 26, 2024.
