In short: Born in a Cuban naval base and raised in Maryland, Peter Bergman has become a fixture of American daytime television. From playing romantic leads to iconic corporate titans, his career spans decades of soap opera history and even unexpected late-night cameos.

Peter Michael Bergman, born June 11, 1953, in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, is an American actor whose career is inextricably linked to the golden era of daytime serials. The son of US Navy officer Walter Bergman, he rose to prominence through two distinct, long-running roles on major networks. He first gained fame on ABC playing Dr. Cliff Warner on All My Children, a role he held during two stints between 1979 and 1989. Before his television fame, he attended Crossland High School in Camp Springs, Maryland. His early life was shaped by his father's service in the United States Navy.

Bergman's television presence extended beyond the soap opera genre into advertising and sitcoms. In 1986, he became the face of a Vicks Formula 44 cough syrup campaign. Taking over for Chris Robinson, who had been the spokesperson since 1984, Bergman used his medical character's persona to connect with audiences, famously noting that while he was not a real physician, he portrayed one on screen. He stepped into this advertising role following legal issues faced by the previous spokesperson, Chris Robinson. This campaign helped solidify his public image during the mid-eight0s.

Since November 27, 1989, Bergman has been most recognized for his portrayal of Jack Abbott on CBS's The Young and the Restless. His versatility has allowed him to step into other worlds, such as a 1997 appearance on The Nanny, where his character shared a kiss with Pamela Anderson, and a 2001 guest spot on The King of Queens. In a notable twist of storytelling, he even played Marco Annicelli, a doppelganger of Jack Abbott, in 2015. His personal life has also been documented, including a marriage to singer Christine Ebersole that lasted from 1976 to 1981. He later wed Mariellen, with whom he has two children.
