In short: Known for spontaneous rhyming and incessant rapping, T. Rajendar is a true polymath of the Tamil film industry. From directing blockbusters in the 1980s to navigating complex political shifts, his career is a whirlwind of cinematic versatility and rhythmic oratory.

Vijay Thesingu Rajendar, widely known as T. R., is a multi-talented figure in the Tamil film industry, serving as an actor, director, producer, musician, and cinematographer. During the 1980s, he enjoyed a period of immense success, with his films achieving blockbuster status and running for years. He is particularly noted for his unique acting style and his ability to compose spontaneous, rhyming sentences and rap.

Beyond his creative output, Rajendar has been a significant figure in regional politics. After being expelled from the Dravida Munnetra Kazargam (DMK), he founded the Thayaga Marumalarchi Kazhagam in 1991. His career saw various transitions, such as joining the DMK in 1996 once Vaiko left, then departing that same group in 2004 to establish the All India Latchiya Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. He has also served as the propaganda secretary for the DMK and held the position of vice-chairman of the Small Savings Scheme.

While his early career was marked by the introduction of successful actresses like Amala, Nalini, and Mumtaj, his cinematic popularity later faced challenges. Critics noted a decline in his films' popularity as they became more predictable, often relying on repetitive storylines and a specific oratorical style involving sentimental scenes and rhyming rhetoric. In recent years, his focus has shifted toward singing film songs and managing his web TV channel, Kural TV, which broadcasts his works and addresses the plight of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
