The perilous transition from mountain cub to independent predator
In short: Follow five red fox cubs as they navigate one of Europe's most demanding alpine environments. This documentary captures the high-stakes journey from a protected den to the brutal reality of claiming territory in a landscape dominated by predators.
The film documents the life cycle of red foxes living at high altitudes where snow persists into spring and cliffs define the terrain. While the cubs initially share this space with ibex, chamois, and marmots, they must soon face the transition to adulthood as summer ends.
Survival depends on navigating a complex hierarchy of threats, including golden eagles from the skies, wolves returning to the mountains, and rival foxes competing for territory. The documentary highlights the intelligence required for these predators to adapt to such an unforgiving wilderness.
