The vertical mastery of a mammal that defies the abyss
In short: This documentary follows the life of a dominant male Alpine ibex in Italy's Gran Paradiso National Park. It captures a life defined by extreme endurance, from birth on a 4,000-meter summit to the mastery of vertical cliffs.
The Alpine ibex is an iconic mountain inhabitant capable of scaling vertical faces that most other mammals cannot navigate. This specialized evolution allows them to thrive in a high-altitude sanctuary shared with species like chamois, wolves, and marmots. However, this mastery comes with constant peril: young ibex face predators like eagles and foxes, while adults must survive violent storms, avalanches, and violent territorial clashes.
The film highlights the fragile ecological balance of the Alps and the ibex's history of narrowly escaping extinction. While they have ruled these peaks for millennia, the species now faces a modern threat from climate change, which is actively reshaping their mountain habitat.
