A debut coach makes history by dominating the twenty-sixth season of The Voice
In short: The twenty-sixth season of The Voice concluded with a historic victory for newcomer Michael Bublé. By securing both the winner and the runner-up spots in his very first season, Bublé achieved a feat never before seen by a debut coach in the history of the American singing competition.
The twenty-sixth season, which premiered on September 23, 2024, introduced a refreshed coaching panel. While Reba McEntire returned for her third season and Gwen Stefani rejoined after a hiatus, the show welcomed Michael Bublé and Snoop Dogg as first-time coaches. Bublé, a Canadian singer-songwriter, became the first person from his country to occupy a coaching chair on the American version of the series. The season also featured a new mechanic called the Coach Replay, allowing coaches to select one artist who had been previously eliminated during the blind auditions.
The competition progressed through several stages, including battles, knockouts, and playoffs. During the knockouts, the show faced an unusual challenge when two contestants withdrew, marking the first time multiple artists exited the competition in a single season. The playoffs were prerecorded, continuing a trend seen in recent seasons, and featured guest mentors such as Simone Biles and Machine Gun Kelly. By the time the finale arrived on December 9 and 10, 2024, all four coaches had representation, a milestone not reached since the twenty-third season.
Sofronio Vasquez was ultimately crowned the winner, providing Bublé with a victory in his inaugural season. This win was notable for several reasons: Vasquez became the first foreign male winner and the second winner of Asian descent in the show's history. Furthermore, Bublé became the fourth debut coach to win, following Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Niall Horan. Most impressively, by having both Vasquez and runner-up Shye on his team, Bublé became the first coach to ever secure the top two positions during his first season on the panel.
