In short: Toulouse–Blagnac Airport is more than a transit point for millions of passengers. Located in the Occitanie region, it serves as a vital testing ground for major manufacturers like Airbus and ATR, using its specialized runways to validate the very planes that fly the world.

Spanning 780 hectares, the airport is a complex infrastructure divided into four distinct halls. Hall B, the oldest section, opened in 1978, while Hall D, the newest, was added in 2010 to support international and long-haul services. The facility manages a significant volume of traffic; in 2017, it served 9,264,611 passengers, though that number shifted to 7.8 million in 2024.

The airport plays a unique role in the aerospace industry due to its proximity to manufacturing facilities for Airbus and ATR. These companies utilize the airport's runways for flight testing and aircraft delivery. Specifically, runway 32L/14R is used for these tests and deliveries, while runway 32R/14L handles commercial arrivals and Airbus formation flights.

The operational history of the airport includes high-stakes testing environments. This has occasionally led to significant incidents, such as in 1994, when an Airbus A330-300 crashed during a simulated engine failure test, resulting in seven fatalities. Another notable incident occurred in 2007, when a brand-new Airbus A340-600 was written off after an engine test at the Airbus factory caused the aircraft to strike a blast-deflection wall.

Connectivity to the airport is evolving. While the T2 tram line closed in 2023, a new Aeroport Express line is expected to reopen in 2026. This service will connect the airport to the future Blagnac line C metro station, providing a shuttle service to the city.
