In short: From singing in costumes as a child to Grammy nominations, Ximena Sariñana has navigated the complexities of both the Mexican music industry and television. Her journey from a young girl inspired by Ella Fitzgerald to a celebrated singer-songwriter and actress reveals the depth of her artistic evolution.

Born in Guadalajara on October 29, 1985, Ximena Sariñana grew up in Mexico City within a creative household; her father is director Fernando Sariñana and her mother is Spanish screenwriter Carolina Sariñana Rubello. Her musical interest was sparked at age two during an Ella Fitzgerald concert, a moment she cites as a major influence alongside artists like Paul Simon and Tracy Chapman. She began her musical training under Ricardo Sánchez, a teacher known for instructing major Mexican talents. Additionally, she studied piano under the instruction of Hanna Cot.

Sariñana's professional career began early, acting in the telenovela Luz Clarita at age 11. She later transitioned into a successful music career, releasing her debut album, Mediocre, on February 12, 2008. Recorded in Buenos Aires and Uruguay, the album was a significant success, earning a gold certification from AMPROFON for selling over 50,000 copies and eventually reaching platinum status for exceeding 80,000 sales. Her early acting roles included playing the character Rosa Isela in the telenovela María Isabel. She also appeared in the 2001 film El Segundo Aire, directed by her father.

Following positive reviews, the record garnered a four-and-a-half star score from Rolling Stone magazine and secured a Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album Grammy nomination during the 51st Annual Grammy Awards in 2009. Beyond her solo work, she has collaborated with various artists, including Jason Mraz and Omar Rodríguez-López, and has served as a UN Women National Goodwill Ambassador for Mexico, where she advocates against femicide and gender-based violence. Her music videos for the tracks 'Vidas paralelas' and 'Normal' were filmed in Iceland. Furthermore, she performed as the lead vocalist for the funk-jazz band Feliz No Cumpleaños.
