Can mathematics predict the collapse of a galactic empire?
In short: Explore the origins of psychohistory, a mathematical sociology designed to forecast the movements of entire populations. This recap covers how one mathematician's equations set a plan in motion to survive a looming 30,000-year Dark Age.
Hari Seldon, a mathematician, developed psychohistory by applying the statistical laws of mass action to large populations. His work predicts the inevitable collapse of a future Galactic Empire that spans the Milky Way, leading to a 30,000-year period of decline before a new empire emerges.
While the fall is unavoidable, Seldon's plan aims to deflect the momentum of these events to shorten the Dark Age to just 1,000 years. To achieve this, he established the Foundation to preserve science and civilization as the building blocks for the next era.
