The nested architecture of reality: understanding the hierarchy of systems
In short: To understand the world, you must see how parts relate to wholes. This video explores the conceptual framework of systems, moving from individual components to the complex, interconnected structures that define our reality.
Systems thinking identifies how complex entities are organized through a specific hierarchy. A system is defined as a collection of many different and connected parts. Within these, 'sub-systems' exist as self-contained units that function independently while remaining part of a larger, more complex system.
This framework is rooted in the National Research Council's 'A Framework for K-12 Science Education,' which emphasizes that systems do not exist in isolation. They interact with other systems, creating a nested progression where the small informs the large and the large constrains the small.
