The hidden roles trees play in our survival and the planet
In short: Beyond providing oxygen, trees perform vital functions like cooling cities and preventing erosion. This SciShow compilation explores the surprising science behind forests, from the mechanics of autumn leaves to the mystery of crooked forests.
Hosted by Hank Green, this collection investigates several botanical mysteries and ecological challenges. The video covers the biological reasons why leaves change color in the fall, the efforts to bring back the American Chestnut, and the strange phenomenon of Europe's dancing, crooked forests. It also examines the origins of certain crops, such as why avocados might not exist naturally, and identifies the world's oldest tree.
