Why your camera fails to capture the full spectrum of a rainbow

Ever wondered why a vibrant rainbow looks dull or incomplete in your digital photos? This video explores the fundamental mismatch between how human eyes perceive color and how digital sensors record it.

The difficulty lies in the discrepancy between the sensitivity of color-sensing cells in the human eye and the color pixels within a digital camera sensor. While we perceive the entire visible spectrum, certain digital hardware struggles to replicate this range. For instance, using a GoPro Hero 7 to photograph a rainbow can result in the violet light disappearing entirely.

The video also examines the mechanics of how computer screens manage to display violet light even when their individual pixels only extend as far as blue.
