How to bring high ceilings within reach with a motorized light lift
In short: Changing bulbs in a grand chandelier shouldn't require a ladder and a prayer. By installing an electric winch system, you can lower heavy fixtures to a workable height, making maintenance and cleaning effortless. Here is the technical process for installing a motorized lift system.
The installation of a motorized light lift, such as the ALL200 model, begins with a fundamental safety protocol: ensuring power is disconnected at the circuit breaker and verified with an electrical tester. The process requires removing the original light fixture and its associated electrical box to prepare the ceiling for the new hardware.
The mechanical setup involves placing a new magnetic electrical box through the ceiling aperture and mounting a motorized electric winch in the access space above. If the area consists of unfinished joist bays with open boards, additional structural support may be necessary to securely anchor the winch using a drill and screws. A critical electrical consideration is whether the original fixture had a constant power source; if not, a new wire must be run to the lift, with connections secured via wire nuts.
The wiring logic requires splicing the existing switch control wires to the fixture wires, as well as connecting the low-voltage wires from a switch box to the winch. Route low-voltage cabling from the winch downwards to a fresh low-voltage ring positioned by the fixture to enable user operation. Once the ground wires are connected to the winch and the cover is replaced, the key switch is attached to the wall ring using screws.
After restoring power, the system is tested by lowering the electrical box. This step requires careful handling: the weight must be removed while maintaining constant downward pressure on the cable. Finally, the electrical connections from the plate are spliced to the light fixture. Once the fixture is raised via the key switch and the magnetic connection is established, the circuit is complete and the light will illuminate.
