In short: Creating a lanyard person requires more than just bright colors; it demands a precise sequence of specialized stitches. From building the limbs to assembling the torso, success depends on mastering specific weaving patterns like the box and barrel stitches to transform simple strings into a recognizable form.

To begin the construction of a lanyard person, you must first craft the arms. This requires two separate sets of four lanyard pieces, each measuring approximately 15 inches in length. The process begins with a box stitch, where strings are folded in opposite directions and woven over and under each other. Once the base is established, you transition into a barrel stitch to form the shape of the arm. You must complete exactly eight barrel stitches for each arm before securing the end with a knot.

The head requires a different structural approach, using four pieces of lanyard roughly 20 inches long. Similar to the arms, the head starts with a foundational stitch—often a multi-box stitch—where strings are crossed and woven to create a solid base. Once the initial box is formed, you continue with the barrel stitch pattern, again completing eight stitches to define the head's shape.

The final assembly involves joining the components. After the arms and head are finished, you must attach the arms to the body. To do this, you turn the head assembly upside down and place the arm strings on the outside of the white strings to prevent them from interfering with the body's construction. The body itself is then completed using a continuous box stitch, weaving the strings to create the torso.

Precision is key throughout the process. If the strings are difficult to thread through the arm, you can trim a small point on the end to facilitate the movement. While the initial stitches may not look perfect, wiggling the strings into place can help achieve the desired shape.
